Dr Liu, former deputy head of neurosurgery at Kunming General Hospital, has performed tens of thousands of operations over his 40 year career. Known for his unique expertise in decompression surgery in acute spinal cord injury，Dr Liu is also a pioneer in the practice of combined orthopaedic surgery / neurosurgery for spinal cord injury and chronic stage decompression of the injured spinal cord.  He has been the recipient of numerous awards, including the National Science and Technology Progress Award, the Military Award for Technological Progress and the Yunnan Science and Technology Progress Award, and holds a number of patents for his inventions in the field of neurosurgery.
